Simple Ways to Detox your Home

- Use a vacuum with a HEPA filter which can capture 99% particles in the air of dust, dander, smoke, mold and allergens
- Don’t allow shoes in the house. They often carry bacteria, viruses and fecal matter. We keep a cubby in the garage and enter the house through the garage
- Housewide water filter: This one is expensive and depends on the area you live in. In south Florida the water quality is poor. Our filter removes heavy metals like lead, pesticides, bacteria and chlorine from the water
- Houseplants: This is my favorite detox trick! We added at least 1 house plant in each room of our house. Plants can remove formaldehyde, benzene and other toxins from the air. They also clean the air of carbon dioxide.
- We use green cleaners that are toxin free. I use green cleaners like Branch Basics or homemade citrus vinegar sprays depending on what I’m cleaning
- We have an air purifier in every bedroom. The one we have has a HEPA filter and has really helped with our dust allergies. We put in on every night when allergies are the worst or after vacuuming. It has different speeds so you can adjust for the noise. It also has a light indicator when the filter needs to be changed which is infrequently and the filters aren’t too expensive.
- We switched out all our plastic containers for steel or glass.
TIPS not seen in video!
- Instead of using a wet mop using a wet microfiber cloth. Mops just redistribute dust
- Remove all fragrances like perfume and cologne
- Switch your cooking pots and pans to steel, iron or glass to avoid PFA’s
- When buying new clothes avoid PFA containing clothes like those that are water-resistant. Instead stick with natural fibers like organic cotton
- Let fresh air into your house once a week to circulate the air
- Use your range hood fan and bathroom fans when using personal spray items or cooking
- When re-heating leftovers re heat them in your own glass or ceramic dishes and not the take out container
- Upgrade your mattress to VOC free-volatile organic compounds. This will lower your families exposure to chemicals. This is especially important for children. EWG Verified is the stamp to look for
